
According to a report from CCTV News, more than 160 felt earthquakes have been recorded near the Tokara Islands off Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, from June 21 to June 23. The Meteorological Observatory in Fukuoka has warned of the potential for a strong earthquake in the region and urged residents and travelers to exercise caution.
The Tokara Islands have a history of intense seismic activity. In December 2021, the area experienced over 300 felt earthquakes within a single month. On Dec. 9 of that year, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Akusekijima Island, registering a strong intensity of level 5 on the Japanese seismic scale.
