
A fatal traffic accident occurred in Hung Hom on June 17, when a medium-sized dump truck lost control near the bus stop on Chatham Road North, close to the Fat Kwong Street flyover. The truck mounted the pavement and struck two female pedestrians, resulting in one fatality and one injury. The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.
Following an investigation, the police arrested the 34-year-old owner of the truck on the same day. He was granted bail and is required to report to the police in late July. Today (June 18), police arrested the 49-year-old driver involved in the incident, who is of Indian descent. He is being detained for investigation on suspicion of "dangerous driving causing death."
The accident occurred at 6:32 a.m. when the truck was traveling southbound on Ping Chi Street. As it approached a bus stop near Fat Kwong Street, it reportedly hit a 50-year-old woman and a 33-year-old woman. The older victim was trapped under the truck and had to be rescued by firefighters. She suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:10 a.m.
The younger woman sustained injuries to her hands and legs but remained conscious and was also taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
