On June 6, federal agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, deployed a large number of law enforcement officers across multiple areas in Los Angeles County to carry out actions against illegal immigrants, resulting in significant street confrontations, chaos, and conflict. According to the BBC, US President Trump stated on Sunday that masks will no longer be allowed during protests.
Trump insisted that after two days of violence, conflict, and unrest, the National Guard performed admirably. He announced that from now on, masks will not be permitted at protest activities.
Trump also blamed instigators and hired troublemakers for inciting the radical protests, claiming that such events are absolutely intolerable and that Democratic leaders in California and Los Angeles should be criticized.
On June 7, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a statement saying that President Trump has signed a memorandum to deploy 2,000 National Guard personnel to Los Angeles to assist federal law enforcement in conducting large-scale sweeps against illegal immigrants in Southern California.
The most intense clashes occurred in Paramount, about 30 kilometers south of downtown Los Angeles, an area populated by Latino immigrants. After a standoff between hundreds of armed federal law enforcement officers and local community protesters, conflict erupted, with officers firing tear gas and stun grenades while protesters retaliated by throwing rocks and bottles. In the series of clashes, at least dozens of protesters and over a hundred illegal immigrants were arrested.
