A serious traffic accident occurred on the Kong Sham Western Highway in the evening of June 6. At about 5:24 p.m. on that day, a bus and a police car collided on the section of the Western Highway near Ha Tsuen Road, outside the San Wai Sewage Treatment Works. A police officer was seriously injured when he fell from a height to avoid the collision and was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital for emergency treatment. The Commissioner of Police, Joe Chow, visited the injured officer at the hospital and said at an event the following day that the injured officer was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit and his condition had stabilized.
In the incident, a police car was hit by another B3X when it was handling a broken down B3 Citybus that was parked on the slow lane, which in turn hit the cab, injuring 10 people. According to the CAM video of the incident on the Internet, it can be seen that the traffic police had just left the malfunctioning city bus, and it is suspected that at the same time, they heard a loud crash from the rear, and hurriedly walked to the shoulder of the road to take shelter, but the B3X didn't stop and continued to charge after the crash, and the traffic police had no way to escape, so they chose to climb over the railings to escape.
The police held a press conference at 10:00 p.m. on June 6, New Territories North Traffic Headquarters Senior Superintendent of Police Wong Yiu-sum explained the incident, said that the police officers were dealing with a vehicle breakdown case, emphasized that the police officers fully in accordance with the standard procedures to deal with, including the police car parked in the back of the faulty vehicle, turn on the blue lights and place the appropriate amount of ice-cream cones.
Wong said that the incident occurred when a bus stopped on the slow lane of the highway due to mechanical failure. The police arrived at the scene and parked a police car behind the broken down bus to control the traffic. Subsequently, a Citybus hit the police vehicle from the rear, causing the police vehicle to be pushed into the fast lane and affecting a cab which was traveling in the fast lane. After the collision, the Citybus concerned continued to run towards the left shoulder of the road, and the police officer was seriously injured when he fell from a bridge about 10 meters high in the course of dodging.
A total of six men and four women were injured in the incident. One of the police officers was seriously injured. The police officer was conscious before he was taken to the hospital and was rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital by ambulance for treatment, where a number of ambulances were deployed to rescue the injured. The rest of the injured included a number of bus passengers, a bus driver and a cab driver, some of whom were taken to hospital by ambulance.
The driver of the Citybus was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The police are investigating the accident from various aspects, including road conditions, the mechanical condition of the vehicle, the driver's physical condition and driving attitude.
