In a city like Hong Kong, where skyscrapers define the skyline and finance fuels the economy, it is easy to overlook the humble grain of rice. Yet rice is not just a staple—it is a symbol of comfort, culture, and connection.

In this exclusive interview, Mr. Kenneth Chan, Chairman of the Rice Merchants' Association of Hong Kong, shares his insights into the evolving rice market, the growing health consciousness of local consumers, and the resilient role rice plays in a changing world.

As more Hongkongers turn to brown, red, and black rice for their nutritional value, the industry adapts. During the pandemic, when panic buying swept the city, the Association responded swiftly to stabilize supply and calm public fear—demonstrating that rice is not only food but a foundation of social stability.

Kenneth also highlights Thailand's continuing role as a trusted rice partner, thanks to its high-quality jasmine rice and efficient logistics. From trade to tradition, and from AI-designed Cha Siu rice to real-world food security, this is a story of how one grain connects nations, cultures, and generations.

Special thanks to the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Hong Kong and Ms. Connie Leung, Special Correspondent of DotDotNews, for their special support and assistance during the Thailand Rice Convention.
