Japanese pop icon Ayumi Hamasaki has publicly denied speculation that Elon Musk is the father of her child, following viral claims made by an American influencer.
The rumors began when influencer Ashley St. Clair, who previously claimed to have a child with Musk, told *The New York Times* that Musk had "children all over the world," including with a Japanese pop star. Online speculation quickly centered on Hamasaki.
On June 2, Hamasaki addressed the rumors directly through Instagram Stories ahead of her Hong Kong concert scheduled for June 14.
In her first Story, she wrote, "I've been waiting and seeing, but is it time I spoke up?" She followed this with a clear denial in the second Story: "My child's father is not Mr. Elon Musk."
Hamasaki then acknowledged why people might have thought the rumor referred to her: "But, I can understand why you might think the person being talked about is me. Haha, even my mom joked with me: 'This news sounds like it's about Ayu-chan' (Hamasaki's nickname)." She added humorously, "Well, if I were an outsider, I think I'd probably say, 'Isn't this Ayu-chan?' Haha."
She concluded firmly: "However, what's wrong is wrong. Putting aside my personal image, in the hypothetical scenario that my child one day Googles this [news about Musk], I would definitely deny it. That's all."
Hamasaki had announced the birth of her son in early 2020, revealing he was born in late 2019. She has never publicly identified the child's father.
