The FIBA 3x3 basketball tournament has been held in Hong Kong for four consecutive years. This year, the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Hong Kong 2025 will take place for the first time at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), coinciding with the Hong Kong Book Fair, Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo, and World of Snacks 2025.
Top Teams in Hong Kong
The FIBA 3x3 World Tour Hong Kong 2025 will be held on July 19–20, 2025. With Hong Kong hosting this international 3x3 basketball event for the fourth consecutive year, the city has already built a strong reputation. Sixteen elite teams from around the world will compete, including the top four ranked teams—Ub (Serbia), Toulouse (France), Amsterdam (Netherlands), and Miami (USA)—who have specifically chosen Hong Kong as a must-play stop. Notably, Hong Kong is the only World Tour stop outside the opening round to feature all four top teams.
Synergy of Sports, Culture & Tourism
This year's biggest highlight is the move from Victoria Park to HKCEC. Kenny Wong Yiu-kin, chief executive of organisers M1 Group, sees this as an opportunity to deepen the synergy between sports, culture, and tourism.
"We had this idea as early as 2000. Back then, the 3x3 basketball booth at the Sports and Leisure Expo was hugely popular, with lines of 200–300 people. After three years of hosting the tournament, we felt this was the perfect time to make it happen. We're grateful for the support from all parties, including the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC)."
Last year's World Tour Final had 1,200 seats, but Wong confirmed this year's capacity will be increased, with one section of the stands designated as an open area so passersby can experience the excitement. To broaden the audience, organizers have introduced several initiatives:
- Free access to the "3x3 Village" for Hong Kong Book Fair ticket holders (additional tickets required for the main competition area).
- Ticket prices range from HK$80 to HK$280 per session.
Wong emphasized that this year's booths will focus on quality over quantity, partnering with FIBA and featuring more international sports brands to align with the basketball theme.
"Underdogs"
The total prize pool of this year's World Tour exceeds HK$1 million. Six of the 16 teams have already confirmed participation, while Team Hong Kong is striving to qualify through preliminary rounds. The team, led by Latvian coach-player Agnis Cavars (a gold medalist in the inaugural Olympic men's 3x3 basketball), has begun intensive training.
Though Hong Kong's 3x3 basketball development lags behind some regions, Cavars believes local players have untapped potential, describing Team Hong Kong as the "underdogs" who come back to win the loudest cheers.
