Dongguan concert organizers have rescheduled Jacky Cheung's "60+ Tour" performances to late August 2025 after public backlash over clashes with China's national college entrance exams (Gaokao).
Originally set for June 6-8, 2025, at the Dongguan Bank Basketball Center, the three-night show faced protests from parents and students worried about noise disruptions during the high-stakes exams. Organizers announced the postponement late Monday (May 27), moving the concerts to August 29-31 at the same venue.
Ticketholders can either retain their tickets for the new dates (no action required) or request full refunds via the original platforms. Organizers will also compensate fans for travel and accommodation cancellation fees linked to the delay.
Noise Fears Debunked, Yet Pressure Prevails
The Dongguan Education Bureau confirmed that the venue is 1.6 kilometers from the Dongguan Sixth Senior High School, a designated Gaokao site. Despite noise level tests showing "minimal impact" from the enclosed indoor arena, authorities acknowledged "persistent concerns" from parents.
"The concerts start at 7:30 pm and end by 10:00 pm, while exams run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm—no overlap exists," stated the Dongguan Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports Bureau. Officials emphasized that past events at the venue caused negligible disturbance.
Balancing Public Sentiment and Logistics
The postponement highlights the sensitivity surrounding Gaokao, a pivotal event for millions of Chinese students. While authorities assured rigorous noise mitigation measures, organizers opted to defer under public pressure.
Cheung's team supported the decision, with fans largely applauding the compromise. The "God of Songs" continues his record-breaking global tour, with rescheduled dates avoiding further clashes with academic milestones.
