According to CCTV News, on May 24 (local time), US President Donald Trump delivered a speech at the graduation ceremony of the Military Academy at West Point, New York. When talking about the military budget, Trump said he would not cut the country's US$1 trillion defense budget.
Trump said, "A US$1 trillion military budget. 1 trillion! People say could you cut that? I'll not cut 10 cents. Another thing we can cut..."
During a meeting with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on April 7, Trump said that the U.S. defense budget for the next fiscal year would reach US$1 trillion for the first time and that "no one has ever seen anything like it. If approved by Congress, this will be the highest annual defense budget ever, and the U.S. may enter the "trillion-dollar defense budget era" when the fiscal year 2026 begins on October 1 of this year. This would represent a nearly 12% increase over the FY2025 defense budget.
