Former U.S. President Joe Biden's confirmed diagnosis of prostate cancer continues to cause concern. Incumbent President Donald Trump, who was saddened by the incident the day before, on Monday (May 19) questioned whether Biden's team knew about Biden's condition long ago and hid it from the public, given that it took a long time for Biden to get a Gleason score of 9.
Vice President Vance also questioned whether the American public was well informed about the president's health while Biden was in office, arguing that if the president was not healthy enough to do the job, he shouldn't have continued to do it.
Some experts believe that Biden should have received a comprehensive annual physical examination, and find it hard to believe that his blood test results over the past year were normal. Some urologists say it's unusual for Biden's condition to be detected so late in the game given today's screening techniques.
Former U.S. President Joe Biden thanked Americans on Monday for their "love and support". "Cancer touches us all," Biden wrote on X in his first public comment about the diagnosis. "Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support."
Biden shared a picture of himself seated with former first lady Jill Biden and their cat, Willow.
Buckingham Palace said King Charles III had written privately to Biden to offer his support and best wishes.
Biden's personal office said on Sunday that he received the diagnosis two days earlier and that the cancer had spread to his bones. A statement from Biden's office said the diagnosis "represents a more aggressive form" of cancer but that it appears to be sensitive to hormone therapy, allowing "for effective management."
