U.S. President Donald Trump is unhappy with Apple CEO Tim Cook's plan to build a new factory in India to produce Apple phones for the U.S., CNN reported on May 15.
"I had a little problem with Tim Cook yesterday," Trump said in Qatar on Thursday (May 15). "I said to him, 'Tim, you're my friend. I treated you very good. You're coming in with US$500 billion. But now I hear you're building all over India, and I don't want you building in India.'"
Although some companies, including Apple, have announced plans to increase production in the United States to avoid high tariffs, it takes years to build factories and U.S. labor costs remain high, CNN said. Cook said on a conference call with analysts earlier this month that he expects "the country of origin of most of the Apple phones sold in the U.S. to be India".
