The Hong Kong Palace Museum has partnered with the renowned Palace Museum to present a brand-new thematic exhibition, "The Ways in Patterns: An Immersive Digital Exhibition from The Palace Museum". Exclusively supported by the Institute for Philanthropy, the exhibition will be open to the public from May 14 to Oct. 13, 2025, in Gallery 7 of the HK Palace Museum.
Founded in 1925, the Palace Museum is one of the largest and most comprehensive museums in the world. Built upon the legacy of the Ming and Qing dynasties' Forbidden City, it houses over 1.86 million cultural treasures. Visitors to the Palace Museum will notice intricate patterns adorning the eaves, walls, doors, and windows of its ancient architecture, as well as in its vast collection of furniture, garments, and artifacts on display. These patterns, rich in variety and symbolism, reflect the Chinese people's love for nature and life, showcasing the finest craftsmanship and a timeless pursuit of beauty. These designs embody an enduring aesthetic and cultural spirit, influencing modern life to this day.
"The Ways in Patterns" exhibition marks the first collaborative multimedia exhibition between the Palace Museum and the HK Palace Museum. Centered on the theme of "patterns" and guided by the concept of "immersion," the exhibition extracts traditional motifs from Palace Museum artifacts, such as architecture, ceramics, and embroidery. By leveraging cutting-edge digital technology, it unveils the cultural meaning behind these patterns while offering contemporary artistic interpretations. Visitors are invited to explore the allure of traditional culture from a fresh perspective through this innovative, interactive experience.
