According to Kyodo News, during trade negotiations with Japan, US not only refused Japan's request for a complete exemption from the 24% reciprocal tariff but also showed no intention of discussing additional tariffs imposed on automobiles and steel. Currently, Japan faces a 10% basic tariff and a 14% additional tariff from the US, and the US is only willing to negotiate the 14% additional tariff.
Last week, Japan's chief tariff negotiator, Ryosei Akazawa, stated after concluding the latest round of negotiations in Washington that Japan hopes to reach a trade agreement with the US in June, and negotiations are expected to accelerate in mid-May.
