Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee reiterated today (May 6) that the government will pursue legal action against anyone who violates national security laws, stressing that such crimes are extremely serious. Speaking to the media ahead of the Executive Council meeting, Lee emphasized that the government will enforce the law strictly and hold offenders accountable whenever there is sufficient evidence.

Lee warned the public not to challenge the law, stating that the government will uphold the rule of law and ensure full enforcement of national security legislation.

His remarks came in response to a recent operation by the Hong Kong Police Force's National Security Department. On April 30, officers arrested two local men, aged 68 and 35, in Tseung Kwan O. The two are reportedly the father and elder brother of Kwok Fung Yee, a designated national security fugitive. They are suspected of assisting in handling Kwok's assets in Hong Kong.

The two individuals were arrested under Section 90(2)(b) of the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, which prohibits dealing with property owned by fugitives. One of the suspects has been formally charged and appeared in court on May 2, while the other has been released on bail pending further investigation.

Lee reaffirmed that Hong Kong will continue to implement the law strictly, and anyone breaching national security laws will face serious consequences.
