Tongcheng Travel's "2025 Labor Day Travel Consumption Insights Report" reveals that favorable weather conditions across much of the mainland in the first half of the holiday, combined with extended leave opportunities, have driven unprecedented levels of travel activity during the Labor Day holiday. The domestic travel market is expected to reach historic highs, with tourism demand likely to remain strong until the weekend following the holiday.
Hong Kong has secured the third position among the top ten outbound travel destinations, following Bangkok and Macao. Other popular international destinations include Tokyo (Japan), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Seoul (South Korea), Singapore, Abu Dhabi (UAE), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), and Jakarta (Indonesia), ranking fourth to tenth respectively.
Interestingly, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia appear in both the most popular outbound travel destinations and inbound tourist source markets. Notably, Phnom Penh (Cambodia) ranks second among inbound tourist source cities, while Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) holds fifth place in both outbound and inbound rankings.
The report emphasizes the robust supply and demand dynamics of China's domestic tourism market, which is characterized by two distinct trends: "urban leisure" in major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou, and "rural micro-vacations" in countryside destinations. Additionally, long-distance travel to western regions of China has become a significant trend during this year's Labor Day holiday.
