The Mongkok East Station footbridge has attracted many tourists recently, but it has brought about hygiene problems.
Our reporter saw garbage scattered in four places on the footbridge, including bottles from the Mainland and packaging bags of mainland coffee chains, which were suspected to have been brought by tourists.
In reply to an enquiry from this newspaper yesterday, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said that it had been keeping a close watch on street cleansing in different districts of Hong Kong, and had recently stepped up cleansing services at individual hotspots for tourists, such as the footbridge outside the Mongkok East MTR station and nearby locations. In addition, the department has also arranged staff to step up patrols to combat breaches of the cleanliness ordinance, so as to maintain the cleanliness of the place.
