The mainland's "Golden Week" of Labor Day started yesterday (May 1), bringing a large influx of mainland tourists to Hong Kong, with many tourist attractions seeing crowds. During the Labor Day and Buddha's Birthday holidays, MTR services will be enhanced. From May 1 to May 5, the East Rail Line will increase train services during peak times.
The Lo Wu trains will run approximately every 5 minutes, while the Lok Ma Chau trains will be increased to about every 7.5 to 10 minutes. However, since other local railway lines are not increasing their frequency and there are many waiting passengers, MTR stations remain very crowded.
Today (May 2) in the afternoon, our DDN reporter observed at the MTR Tsim Sha Tsui station that the flow of people was very high, with slow passenger movement. The queue for trains extended from the platform to the station concourse.
Due to the large number of waiting passengers, some public facilities, such as restrooms, also experienced long lines. At the MTR Mong Kok station, the reporter noted that the line for the women's restroom had become extremely long, making it difficult to see the end of the queue.
