Hongkong Post announced it will cease accepting airmail containing goods bound for the US starting today (April 27). This decision follows an earlier suspension of surface mail services on April 16.
Mail containing only documents, with no goods, will remain unaffected.
The suspension comes as the US government prepares to implement new tariff rules from May 2, which will remove the tax exemption for low-value goods shipped from HK and impose higher duties. Hongkong Post expressed strong disapproval of the US policy, accusing the American government of "unreasonable and bullying" behavior by arbitrarily increasing tariffs.
Hongkong Post emphasized that it will not act as a collection agent for the newly imposed tariffs and warned HK residents to be prepared for potentially exorbitant and unfair costs when sending goods to the US.
