When discussing the Russia-Ukraine conflict in a special interview, U.S. President Donald Trump said that his previous claim of being able to end the conflict within 24 hours of taking office was a joke, but he also noted that a resolution was nearly reached.

"Of course, people know that when I said that, it was said in jest, but it was also said that the war would end," he added.

Trump's statement comes the week the White House warned that he is "frustrated" with negotiations to end the war and his patience is "running out."

In response, Time magazine commented that Trump could be remembered by history for his stance on the Russia-Ukraine issue, as he broke away from decades of foreign policy followed by previous U.S. presidents, alienated NATO allies, and sided with Russia regarding the conflict.
