Chief Executive John Lee delivered a video address at an exchange luncheon of an award ceremony in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), stating that the population of GBA reaches 87 million, with a per capita GDP of US$40,000 based on purchasing power parity.
"The regional GDP has surpassed 14 trillion RMB, exceeding that of many advanced countries and developed economies, making it a strong and opportunity-filled domestic market."
Lee pointed out that the GBA, occupying less than 0.6% of the country's land area, generates one-ninth of the national economic total, brimming with vitality and infinite business opportunities.
"The outstanding enterprises awarded today and the distinguished individuals receiving the Greater Bay Area Academicians honors have utilized their rich experience and professional knowledge accumulated in their industries to contribute to the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and the nation."
He also noted that in the face of rising unilateralism and protectionism, international cooperative relationships will undergo significant changes, and a new order in world trade will emerge.
"In this new era and new situation, fully grasping national development opportunities and actively integrating into the national development landscape is more timely and important than ever," he said.
According to Lee, the construction of GBA is the best entry point for Hong Kong to integrate into the national development framework. "The SAR government will make good use of Hong Kong's unique advantages under 'one country, two systems' to connect with the world and seize the vast opportunities presented by GBA."
