According to a report from China News Service and various foreign media, on April 22 local time, the White House announced that US President Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, will travel to Moscow this week for a new round of talks with Russian President Putin regarding the Ukraine crisis.

US Envoy to meet with Putin

Reuters reported that White House Press Secretary Leavitt announced Witkoff's upcoming trip to the US, stating that Trump had met with Witkoff earlier on April 22 and expressed his desire to "want everyone to know that the negotiations continue."

Leavitt mentioned that Witkoff had previously held three lengthy meetings with Putin to discuss the possibility of resolving the Ukraine crisis, and revealed that Witkoff would be heading to Russia later this week. Leavitt also indicated that Trump was dissatisfied with both sides of the conflict.

This meeting comes just as talks concerning the Ukraine issue are set to begin in London on April 23rd local time. US State Department spokesperson Bruce stated at another briefing that US Special Envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg will attend these meetings, while Secretary of State Rubio will no longer participate. On the other hand, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy stated on April 22 that Ukraine is prepared to hold talks with Russia in any form.

Russian response: Negotiations are difficult and time-consuming

According to TASS, Kremlin foreign policy advisor Ushakov earlier confirmed that Witkoff plans to visit Moscow.

Russian presidential spokesman Peskov had previously told the Russian news agency Sputnik that if Putin meets with Witkoff, the Kremlin will release relevant information.

Additionally, the Financial Times reported that Peskov commented on the talks between the US and Russia, stating, "There is a lot of hard work going on. We're talking to the Americans. The process is difficult and time-consuming. You should not expect immediate results, this work cannot be carried out publicly."

TASS noted that Witkoff's most recent visit to Russia was on April 11, when he had over four hours of discussions with Putin in St. Petersburg, focusing on potential solutions to the Ukraine issue.
