Since the opening of the Osaka Expo 2025 on April 13, the official mascot "Myaku-Myaku," with its red and blue design, has continued to generate heated discussions. Recently, a user on the social media platform X revealed that a venue shop has launched "Myaku-Myaku Squid Strips," featuring a unique design that has stirred up another wave of conversation.
A participant in the Expo's trial operations shared that these squid strips perfectly replicate the mascot's red and blue colors, with twisted fibers resembling vascular tissue, even extending into tentacle-like strands. The user jokingly remarked, "They've chopped up Myaku-Myaku and packaged it for sale!" However, they also noted, "Despite the bizarre colors and wild seasoning, it surprisingly tastes good."
After the photos surfaced, online discussions ensued, with many expressing their discomfort: "Too horrifying!" "It looks disgusting, and the coloring is excessive," "This makes me lose my appetite," "I want to see the ingredient list," and "In a sense, the Expo has collapsed." Meanwhile, some users made creative associations, saying, "Red represents arteries, blue represents veins," with others humorously warning, "Consuming it may lead to being parasitized by Myaku-Myaku!"
Japanese media reported that despite the unappetizing colors of the snack, the red part is flavored with pickled ginger, while the blue part has a marble soda flavor, both of which are local specialties of Osaka.
