On April 10, British Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobhouse and her husband traveled to Hong Kong to visit their son and grandson. Upon arrival at the airport, Hobhouse was denied entry and subsequently returned to the United Kingdom approximately five hours later. Her husband, a businessman, was permitted to enter the city.
Hobhouse, a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC), has been vocal in promoting tougher policies on China among democratic nations, particularly regarding trade, national security, and human rights. She has also openly criticized the Hong Kong SAR government's actions concerning freedom of speech and political dissent.
