According to The New York Times, the US has recently revoked the visas of some Chinese students and scholars. While this move does not have a direct link to the ongoing trade dispute, some conservative voices suggest there may be a connection between the two.

The New York Times reports that Chinese students account for one-quarter of all international students in the US, making them a significant source of funding for American universities.

The recent measures targeting Chinese students appear to align with trade tensions. For instance, the US Department of Education recently issued a warning, focusing on legislation in Ohio related to academic collaboration with China. Florida has banned public universities from hiring Chinese citizens. Additionally, a bill in the House of Representatives seeks to prohibit all Chinese nationals from studying in the US, although it is unlikely to pass. Republican lawmakers have also demanded that several universities disclose financial and research information regarding Chinese students.

Last week, Donald Trump Jr., the son of the US president, posted on social media that expelling all Chinese students would be a "great idea" in retaliation for China's tariff countermeasures.

The New York Times also noted that on Chinese social media platforms, some users have begun discussing canceling trips to the US during International Workers' Day.
