US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Mexico on April 10, threatening punitive tariffs and sanctions if the country fails to meet its water supply obligations under the 1944 treaty. The treaty, signed between the US and Mexico, requires Mexico to provide a certain amount of water to Texas in exchange for water from the US.
Taking to social media, Trump accused Mexico of breaching its treaty commitments, claiming that Mexico owes Texas a significant amount of water. He wrote, "Last year, the only Sugar Mill in Texas CLOSED, because Mexico has been stealing the water from Texas Farmers."
Trump emphasized that the US will continue to increase punitive measures against Mexico unless the issue is resolved. "We will keep escalating consequences, including TARIFFS and, maybe even SANCTIONS," he warned.
