Xinhua News Agency reported that a fire broke out at approximately 9 pm on April 8 at a nursing home in Longhua County, Chengde City, Hebei Province. Preliminary statistics show the blaze claimed 20 lives by 3 am on April 9.
All surviving residents have been transferred to nearby hospitals for observation and further treatment. Joint expert teams from both Hebei Province and Chengde City have been dispatched to the site to oversee rescue operations and post-disaster arrangements.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
