A medical helicopter in Japan crashed into the sea on the afternoon of April 6 while transporting a patient. Six people were on board, three of whom were initially reported missing but later found. Among the six, three died, including an 86-year-old female patient, her 68-year-old son, and a 34-year-old doctor.
According to Japanese media reports, the incident occurred around 1:30 pm local time when a helicopter with six people took off from Tsushima City in Nagasaki Prefecture on its way to a hospital in Fukuoka. The helicopter lost contact during the flight, prompting the Japan Coast Guard to initiate a search. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism stated that the helicopter lost communication approximately 10 km east of Tsushima Airport.
By around 5 pm, the coast guard headquarters began the search, rescuing three individuals nearby: a 66-year-old male pilot, a male mechanical technician, and a 28-year-old female nurse, all of whom were conscious. Later that evening, the three who were found were the 86-year-old female patient, her 68-year-old male relative, and the 34-year-old male doctor; they were discovered without vital signs.
All six individuals were transported to the hospital for emergency treatment. The 86-year-old female patient was confirmed dead, while her accompanying son and the doctor were also pronounced dead after resuscitation efforts. The remaining three, including the co-pilot and nursing staff, were conscious and in stable condition. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the helicopter crash.
