
A sightseeing bus was involved in a collision on the southbound section of the Chuo Expressway in Hachioji, Tokyo, Japan, on Saturday (April 5) morning, injuring 47 passengers. Sources said there were six Hong Kong people on board the tourist bus that was hit by the collision. The Immigration Department (ImmD) said it has so far received one related request for assistance involving a Hong Kong resident who sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.
Upon learning of the incident, ImmD said it had immediately sought information through the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Japan, the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong (TICHK) and the travel agent concerned. So far, one request for assistance has been received, involving a Hong Kong resident who sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization. ImmD has provided appropriate advice and practicable assistance in accordance with their wishes.
The incident occurred at around 10:00 a.m. yesterday when two coaches collided near the entrance of the tunnel at the exit of the Chuo Expressway in Hachioji, Tokyo. It is reported that there was traffic congestion near the tunnel at the time of the accident, and it is believed that the first bus was rear-ended by the bus behind it and was forced to stop. Details of the accident are under investigation. A total of 47 bus passengers were injured, but all were conscious and not in danger.
The bus in question belonged to the Mt. Fuji one-day tour offered by the travel platform KKday. Kkday said after the incident that it had confirmed with its local Japanese provider TUI that there were 12 KKday travelers on board the bus that was hit by the rear-ended bus, including 6 Hong Kong travelers, and that the tour had been terminated on that day, and that the travelers had been sent to the hospital for medical checkups, and that KKday would help the travelers return to their home country, and would also provide insurance assistance to all KKday travelers.
