On April 3, the National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center published a monitoring and analysis report regarding cyber attacks on the information systems for the 2025 Harbin Asian Winter Games and critical information infrastructure in Heilongjiang Province.
The report indicates that during the event period from Feb. 7 to 14, 2025, these systems faced a significant number of cyber attacks from abroad, primarily originating from the United States, the Netherlands, and other regions.
Key findings include:
- The Asian Winter Games' information systems experienced 270,167 cyber attacks. A total of 12,602 high-risk malicious IP addresses were blocked, which attempted to exploit vulnerabilities and intrude on data systems.
- The three most targeted systems were the event information release system, the entry and exit management system, and the payment card system. Attack methods included probing scans to gather fingerprint information of network assets and exploiting known system vulnerabilities.
- The attack sources were predominantly from the US (170,864 attacks, 63.24%), followed by Singapore (40,449, 14.97%) and the Netherlands (12,414, 4.95%).
For the critical information infrastructure in Heilongjiang Province, from Jan. 31 to Feb. 14, the majority of attacks also originated from the US and its allies. The highest attack counts came from the Netherlands (37.98 million), the US (11.79 million), and Thailand (720,000). Other countries such as Australia, the UK, Germany, Lithuania, Canada, Japan, and Singapore ranked in the top ten for attack sources.
Despite the high volume of cyber attacks, the cybersecurity team successfully mitigated severe impacts on the event.
