Today is April 2, "Liberation Day" to Trump and his minions. His White House spokesperson calls it the greatest day in American history. But Trump has obviously gotten the date wrong. It should have fallen on April Fool's Day, the day when stupidity is loosened upon the earth. East or West, we are all clowns in the Trump circus.
Trump should stay on the golf course
Trump has been busy manufacturing trouble in the first two months of his second term. We all wish to see more of him on the golf course where he can do no harm, except to his own ego. The planet is a lot safer when he is in his playpen. He has a better chance of making a "hole-in-one" on the golf course than making America great again off it.
A cabinet of incompetents: follies galore
A man is known by the company he keeps. Trump has surrounded himself with his handpicked Cabinet of Incompetents, a collection of cronies who share one essential qualification: the itch to kiss his fat, smelly ass. America is now a nation of shameless brown nosers. In just two months, idiocy has claimed its first victim. Hegseth, the Secretary for Defense has fallen prey to his own stupendous stupidity by knowingly or unknowingly leaking top-secret military plans to a journalist. More tomfoolery will follow. No one lasts long in the Trump cabinet. They are either jailed or fired, depending on whether they are on the wrong of the law, or on the wrong side of the Donald.
A Trump recession is looming
The world's jittery markets have spoken, with stocks plummeting left and right. Trump's planetary tariff war harks back to the Great Depression of the 1930's triggered by the idiotic Smoot-Hawley bill widely considered the most lethal legislation for slapping tariffs on thousands of goods. But Trump is either historically ignorant or constitutionally incapable of learning lessons from history. In 2008, "greed-is-good" Wall Street unleashed its financial tsunami on the world. And now we must weather the Trump typhoon.
What rule-based order? Where is the UN?
What a country! What an insanity! When America is not waging military war, it is busy waging financial war. When it has the big, bulking muscle, financial or military, the US never misses an opportunity to flex or inflict it. Who needs the UN or the mythical rule-based order? Rules are for the weak and the submissive. They don't handcuff the strong and the aggressive.
A serial loser with the Midas touch in reverse
With Trump in the driver's seat, the world is all buckled up. The psychiatrists are right. Trump is certifiably insane. He is like an overgrown child throwing tantrums and breaking the family crystals. He has no soul, and no sense of shame. This self-proclaimed brilliant entrepreneur owns the honor of sending his own casino into bankruptcy. Have you ever heard of a cash-cow casino going bust? But somehow, this genius has engineered his own goal. The same fate has befallen the Trump University, but in addition, it was sued for malpractice and died an early death. Now, this serial loser is itching to be a winner in a ruleless global economic contest. He has the Midas touch in reverse. Everything he touches turns to dust. His itchy fingers might be triggering a global recession and disrupting the destiny of an entire planet. Who puts him there? American democracy, that's who. Trump is America's curse on humanity.
Nobel Peace Prize for the architect of trade wars?
Green with envy, Trump wants what Obama has. He has set his sights on this year's Nobel Peace Prize. He might not qualify as a warmonger on the battlefield. But he has triggered a devastating war by economic means. At the very least, peace should encompass the absence of non-military conflict. It would be the height of hypocrisy if Trump walks away with the biggest trophy for sowing economic chaos and wiping out millions of livelihoods.
America has lost its moral compass
This is only his second month. There are 46 months to go, and Trump is already flirting with the cruel idea of a third term. God have mercy on our souls. This man is anti-science, anti-truth and anti-humanity. Yet, he proposes, and he disposes. After Trump, all talk about human rights, human wrongs or human decency is meaningless. In Gaza, Israeli soldiers have just murdered in cold blood, 15 medics who were desperately trying to save lives. Not a word of condemnation from self-righteous America, not a peep from the White House. America's moral compass has gone missing.
Could China be the accidental beneficiary of Trump's folly?
But, dark as the days are, there is a silver lining. For all intents and purposes, alliances are dead and buried. Trump is treating America's closest allies no better than enemies. His tariffs are across-the-board and ally-blind. A major geopolitical reshuffling is underway, and China may be an unintended beneficiary of Trump's folly. There are only American interests. There are no common interests. Unilateralism is running riot. Will Trump Make America Great Again? Only if you believe in the cruel jokes that are swirling on April Fool's Day.
