US President Donald Trump recently stated that his interest in serving a third term is "not a joke," according to an AP report cited by Global Times.

The 78-year-old Trump made the remarks during a phone interview with NBC on Sunday (March 30). When asked about the possibility of a third term, Trump said, "There are methods which you could do it," adding, "I have had more people ask me to have a third term."

However, The New York Times reported that any attempt by Trump to seek a third term would violate the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution, which explicitly limits a president to two terms.

Previously, some analysts suggested that one potential strategy for Trump to pursue a third term might involve his vice president, J.D. Vance, running for president first, then transferring the presidency back to Trump upon winning. When asked about this scenario during the NBC interview, Trump responded, "That's one. But there are others too."

Despite his remarks, Trump noted that it is still "too early" to focus on the matter and emphasized that his current priority is on the work at hand.

The AP highlighted that Trump's comments reveal a clear interest in pursuing a third presidential term, though NBC noted that Trump has previously used similar statements to provoke his critics.
