Many Hong Kong tourists enjoy playing claw machines and gacha in Japan. However, a recent incident has ignited outrage among netizens after a post from a Japanese shop revealed that someone had used Hong Kong 50-cent coins as substitutes for 100-yen tokens in a gacha machine, resulting in a loss of 1,500 yen-over ten times the value.

A user on the social media platform Threads shared that a museum located in Tokushima discovered the misuse of Hong Kong coins. The original post from the "Roadside Station Oboke" on Twitter reported that 15 Hong Kong 50-cent coins were found in the gacha machine, leading to a total loss of 1,500 yen. The museum issued a warning to other establishments with gacha machines to be cautious.

The incident has drawn significant backlash online, with many users criticizing the behavior, saying it "shames Hong Kong people." Comments included, "Using 50-cent coins, most likely Hong Kong people," and "It's pretty low to bring so many coins for gacha." Others expressed disbelief, remarking, "No one would accidentally bring that many coins on a trip; that person must have planned it." One user even recalled that this behavior had been heard of "over twenty years ago."

Some users noted that they had heard similar stories in the past, with one friend recounting how someone had previously tried to use a stack of coins in a shop as if they were 100 yen tokens, leading to a severed friendship over the matter.
