Hong Kong's "Super March," a series of high-profile sports and arts events, has driven a notable surge in tourism, attracting both locals and international visitors. Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Rosanna Law, announced that from March 1 to March 27, the city welcomed 886,400 overseas visitors—a 13% year-on-year increase.
The events included world-renowned gatherings such as Art Basel, Art Central, and the HK Sevens. Law highlighted that VIP admissions to Art Basel saw double-digit growth compared to last year, reflecting the global art market's sustained interest in HK as a cultural hub.
These large-scale events have significantly benefited sectors like hospitality, dining, retail, and transportation, with the economic impact expected to be substantial. The government aims to increase the tourism sector's contribution to HK's GDP from 2.6% in 2023 to 4.5% within five years.
Law emphasized that while the influx of visitors is encouraging, the focus of HK's tourism strategy remains on enhancing the visitor experience rather than merely boosting numbers. Current efforts include leveraging the city's scenic coastlines and outlying islands, as well as promoting emerging offerings like yacht tourism to reshape HK's tourism landscape.
