The anchor of the world's largest oil tanker, Seawise Giant, arrived at the Central on March 27, situated in front of the Observation Wheel.
The Hong Kong Maritime Museum announced that a new "Hong Kong Maritime Museum Jockey Club Anchor Plaza" will be constructed in front of Central Ferry Piers 9 and 10, featuring immersive art and technology exhibition pavilions and outdoor interactive display screens, expected to be completed and opened for free in September this year.
The anchor of the Seawise Giant weighs 36 tons, with a shank height of 7 meters, a width of 4.45 meters, and a thickness of 1.13 meters, originally connected to an anchor chain measuring 20 sections for a total of 548 meters. After the tanker's operational life ended, it was dismantled on a beach in Gujarat, India, in 2010, and later purchased by the Honorary Chairman of the Maritime Museum, Ho On-tat. It was temporarily stored at the Stonecutters Island Government Dockyard and was transported to Central.

The Maritime Museum stated that the anchor of the Seawise Giant not only showcases its former grandeur but also witnesses the remarkable history of Hong Kong's shipping development. In addition to the anchor, the Maritime Plaza will become a new interactive public learning space for education, entertainment, and art, including immersive art technology exhibition pavilions and outdoor interactive display screens. Visitors will be able to learn about local marine life and maritime history while appreciating significant marine cultural heritage.
