March 16 marks Alumni Day for Hong Kong's premier institution, the University of Hong Kong (HKU). Established 114 years ago under the supervision of then-Governor Sir Frederick Lugard, HKU has nurtured generations of graduates. This time, DotDotNews journalists took this opportunity to gather at this grand event and pose "thought-provoking questions" to the graduates, alumni, and current students of HKU.
As the graduation season approaches, some students have already secured job offers, while others are still submitting applications. This street interview aimed to explore the career choices of HKU graduates, including whether they prefer to stay in Hong Kong for work and if their jobs align with their fields of study. At the same time, many alumni shared their insights on career planning and academic experiences to guide current students.
However, job hunting remains a sensitive topic, and many interviewees were reluctant to appear on camera or disclose their employment situations. This hesitation reflects the intense competition in this year's job market, as fresh graduates face mounting pressure to secure positions in an increasingly challenging economic environment.
