
The Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Rail Link, connecting Hung Shui Kiu in Hong Kong to Qianhai in Shenzhen, is set to be completed between 2034 and 2038, as previously mentioned by the government, to meet the needs of the Northern Metropolis development.
The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mable Chan, stated on March 23 in a television program that details of the railway proposal will soon be announced, including plans to add a new Shenzhen Bay Station and explore ways to expedite construction, to issue an invitation for expressions of interest in the second half of the year.
Lam expressed hopes to adopt innovative models to advance the project in collaboration with Shenzhen, such as synchronously constructing sections in both Hong Kong and Shenzhen to save time. She mentioned that the underwater portion will utilize tunnel boring machines, and there is consideration to commission Shenzhen contractors to undertake the construction in one go, which could enhance efficiency for both parties.
