A netizen recently posted online about passing by a hotpot restaurant in North Point and noticing a pile of "MSG Mountain" at the entrance, with packaging indicating it was produced in Mainland China. The netizen expressed shock, stating, "Seeing it immediately made me feel like I was poisoned by MSG!"
In a post on the social media platform Threads, a user recounted that while walking past the hotpot restaurant one evening, they saw that the area outside was filled with a mountain of MSG packaged in simplified Chinese characters, labeled as having a "strong flavor-enhancing effect." The user speculated whether it was due to nearby restaurants ordering in bulk, saying, "I'm curious which restaurant would order such a large quantity of domestic MSG?"
Later, after dining, the user walked by the same spot around 9 PM and found that the "MSG Mountain" was still there, wondering why it remained blocking the sidewalk without anyone addressing it. However, some netizens pointed out that the nylon bags were not filled with MSG.
"Because these types of nylon bags are difficult to puncture, they are often used by construction workers to carry debris such as dirt and tiles."
Other users mentioned that they had seen large bags labeled as "MSG" at construction sites too, reacting similarly, only to discover they were used by workers to carry cement.
