The Hong Kong Poison Control Center of the Hospital Authority (HA) has recently introduced that last year, it received more than 130 cases of suspected "space oil" users seeking treatment in public hospitals, of which about one-fourth were minors, with the youngest being only 11 years old, and there were three deaths in related cases.
There were cases of women who developed beards due to excessive testosterone caused by the use of "space oil", and there were cases of young girls who were gang-raped after becoming delirious after taking "space oil". HA emphasizes that the abuse of space oil drugs will be confused, unconscious, mental state and behavioral abnormalities, as well as "disconnection" and other symptoms, the seriousness of which can be fatal. HA advises the public not to try, and if found around the abuser's behavior, or mental state, accompanied by the patient to seek medical attention immediately.
The Hong Kong Poison Control Center of the HA recently reviewed the poison consultation service last year, pointing out that the number of cases served last year was 5,325, an increase of 21% over the 4,412 cases in 2023, of which 2,952 were poison consultation cases and 2,373 were reported cases. The reported cases of poisoning included those with poisoning problems due to drug abuse.
