According to the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, on Thursday (March 20), Acting President Choi Sang-mok held a "livelihood economy inspection meeting" in Gyeongju. As part of this plan, the South Korean government will introduce a limited-time visa-free program for group tourists from China next month, aiming for full implementation in the third quarter of this year after gathering public opinion.
However, recent travelers heading to Seoul should be aware that the Constitutional Court of Korea is about to announce the results of President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment trial. Large-scale gatherings of both supporters and opponents of the impeachment are expected around Gwanghwamun and Anguk Station, likely continuing until March 23. The Seoul city government will enhance traffic controls in the area, so travelers should verify local traffic regulations, check if attractions are open, and remain vigilant about their safety.
According to South Korean media, the Constitutional Court is expected to deliver its ruling on the impeachment case between March 20 and 21. If the court decides in favor of the impeachment, President Yoon will be immediately removed from office; if not, he will resume his presidential duties. From now until March 23, due to the large gatherings at Gwanghwamun and Anguk Station, the Seoul city government has announced strengthened traffic controls and safety measures. It is anticipated that subway stations and city buses around Gwanghwamun and Anguk Station on Line 3 may not stop for boarding or disembarking or may temporarily alter their routes due to traffic restrictions.
Nearby tourist attractions such as Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, and Unhyeongung may also restrict entry or temporarily close based on the assembly situation. Travelers are advised to check the relevant official websites for updated information before heading out.
