Before the main election, Election Committee subsector by-elections will be held on September 7. Lee has instructed the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau to work closely with the Electoral Affairs Commission to ensure a smooth election process.

A proposed asset sale by CK Hutchison Holdings, including its Panama Canal ports, has sparked significant public discussion.

Chief Executive John Lee addressed the issue, expressing three key points:

  • He acknowledged society's concerns and emphasized the need to pay attention to public sentiment.
  • He reiterated that the Hong Kong SAR government demands fair and just treatment for its businesses overseas and opposes coercive tactics.
  • He stressed that any asset transaction must comply with legal and regulatory requirements, with the government handling such matters accordingly.

3. Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Residents Can Now Apply for Electronic Exit-Entry Permits Online

"Starting March 20, 2025, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan residents can apply for electronic temporary exit-entry permits (EEPs) online, according to China's National Immigration Administration.

This new system aims to simplify travel procedures, especially for those who lose, damage or forget their EEPs while traveling within the Mainland. Applications can be submitted via the Immigration 12367 online platform, and the permits will be valid for seven days.

Additionally, a new 'dual permit correlation' verification service will link EEPs with Residence Permits, making handling financial and personal affairs easier.

4. Citybus' New Bus Stop Signs Spark Passenger Complaints

"Citybus' new bus stop signs have drawn criticism from passengers who find them hard to read due to smaller route numbers and clashing colors.

A viral post on Threads compared the new and old designs, with an online poll revealing that 93% of 1,770 voters preferred the old signs. Many have likened the new design to an eye exam poster, complaining that it is confusing and difficult to read from a distance.

5. Hong Kong Temperatures Set to Soar Next Week

"The Hong Kong Observatory has announced that rising temperatures are expected next week, with highs reaching 28°C and some areas possibly hitting 30°C.

By Monday, March 24, temperatures will hit 28°C for three consecutive days. Some New Territories locations may even experience highs of 30°C.

With warmer weather returning, residents are advised to stay hydrated and prepare for hotter days ahead."
