AlipayHK announced today (March 20) a strategic partnership with Chengdu Tianfu Tong, officially integrating with the city's entire public transport system. This makes AlipayHK the first Hong Kong electronic wallet to support all metro lines in Chengdu, allowing users to pay for both metro and public bus fares.
The service covers 16 metro lines and over 1,700 city bus routes and shuttle services. Hong Kong users can access this feature by searching for "Transport" on the AlipayHK homepage or clicking the "Transport" button in the lower right corner. After switching to the city ride code and following the instructions to activate it, users can simply scan the corresponding ride code at the scanner to pay for their fares in Hong Kong dollars.
AlipayHK CEO Venetia Lee stated that the full integration of Chengdu's transport system marks a significant expansion of AlipayHK's smart living services from the Greater Bay Area to core cities in Southwest China, further promoting exchanges and integration between the two regions. AlipayHK also revealed that as Hong Kong accelerates its digital transformation and more residents travel to the mainland for consumption, the acceptance of QR code payments for transport has significantly increased. Over the past year, more than 10 million cross-border ride services were used by Hong Kong residents through AlipayHK.
