The Department of Health (DH) announced today (March 20) the cancellation of the license for Dr MD Clinic and Ambulatory Centre, a day procedure center (DPC) located in Causeway Bay.

The decision follows multiple serious breaches of the Code of Practice for Day Procedure Centres, which posed potential risks to patient safety. Earlier this month, the DH had suspended the DPC's license and initiated cancellation procedures. After considering the licensee's representation, the statutory notification period expired today, leading to the publication of information on the DH's website. Effective immediately, the DPC is prohibited from providing specialized services, including surgical and anesthetic procedures.

The DH's investigation was prompted by a complaint regarding the suspected mishandling of medical equipment at the DPC. During unannounced inspections, the DPC was found to have violated several regulations, including improper management of anesthetic drugs, failure to sterilize medical equipment correctly, and inadequate staff training and supervision. Additionally, the DPC was suspected of falsifying records related to medical equipment checks and monitoring.

The DH will continue to monitor licensed private healthcare facilities closely to ensure patient safety.
