Today (March 19), ManpowerGroup Greater China released its employment outlook survey for the second quarter of this year, revealing a significant rebound in hiring intentions among Hong Kong employers. Among the 525 surveyed employers in Hong Kong, 30% indicated plans to increase their workforce over the next three months, while 19% expected to reduce their staff. Additionally, 50% stated they would maintain their current employee numbers.

After seasonal adjustment, the employment outlook index for Hong Kong for the next quarter stands at +11%, an increase of 5% from the previous quarter, reflecting a more positive sentiment among employers regarding workforce expansion. However, the employment outlook index remains below the global index of +25%. This global survey covered 42 countries and regions, interviewing over 39,400 employers.

The survey indicated that among the seven major industries in Hong Kong, the transportation and logistics sector faces significant challenges, with an employment outlook index of -25%. This decline is primarily attributed to international trade frictions, tariff policies (especially the tariffs imposed by the U.S. on China), and the slowdown in global economic growth, all of which have led to reduced demand for logistics and transportation.

In contrast, other industries show positive trends. The healthcare and life sciences sector boasts the highest employment outlook index at +31%, followed closely by the information technology sector at +27%. Additionally, as tourism and consumer spending gradually recover, the demand for recruitment in the consumer goods and services sector has also increased, with an index of +18%.
