According to Taiwan media reports, a series of incidents rocked Pingtung County late on March 16 and early March 17. After a store was vandalized in Wandan Township, a gunfight erupted at around 1 a.m., leaving five people injured. Police arrived at the scene to find an abandoned car riddled with bullet holes and 26 shell casings scattered on the ground.
The gunfight reportedly occurred near a roadside car wash in Pingtung City. Nearby residents, startled by the sound of gunfire, quickly alerted authorities. Preliminary investigations suggest the violence may be connected to the earlier vandalism case in Wandan.
Videos circulating online appear to show two groups of individuals in four vehicles engaging in a street shootout. Dashcam footage from a passing vehicle captured the sound of continuous gunfire, creating a tense atmosphere in the area.
According to reports, forensic teams collected evidence at the scene while officers canvassed nearby hospitals. Five individuals with minor injuries sought medical attention on their own, and none sustained life-threatening injuries.
Initial police findings suggest the gunfight may have been sparked by a dispute involving hostess services, escalating into a confrontation between two rival groups. The incident is also believed to be linked to the earlier store vandalism.
The Pingtung County police department has identified certain vehicles and suspects involved and is actively pursuing them as part of the ongoing investigation.
