The article pointed out that amidst the high waves of the China-US strategic game, the plan to sell ports at both ends of the Panama Canal by Cheung Kong, in a consortium led by the US BlackRock, reached a principled agreement. Trump and the US side do not regard this deal as a "normal business act" but blatantly and unreservedly interfere and manipulate it as a means to promote global hegemony.
The article expressed that in the face of such a significant matter, the relevant companies should think twice, carefully considering the nature and crux of the issue, and reflecting upon which side they stand on and from what position.
On March 15, Ta Kung Pao published a signed article in the Ta Kung times review titled "Great Entrepreneurs are Patriotic (偉大的企業家都是錚錚愛國者)." The article noted that the transaction has sparked high attention and strong doubts among the people, including why vital ports are so easily transferred to ill-intentioned US forces, questioning whether the so-called "shrewd" deals have considered national and ethnic interests, whether they have aided evil, harmed China and the world. The article stated that great entrepreneurs are staunch patriots, and in the face of major issues of principle, the involved entrepreneurs should consider how to choose, as history has long provided the answer.
The article pointed out that history and reality indicate that entrepreneurs at the forefront must stand firmly with the country in the face of US hegemonic bullying, bravely fight, in order to defend the homeland, win dignity, and preserve their reputation. Conversely, if they fail to see through the true nature of American politicians who "want money but also want lives," choosing them and going against the tide, they may temporarily achieve "great profits" and make big money, but ultimately have no future and be branded by history.
These two articles have sparked widespread social repercussions after publication, becoming a hot topic online. "Li Ka-shing wants to sell ports, authorities repost 'Don't Be Naive, Don't Be Confused'" topped the Weibo hot search list on Saturday. Netizens have pointed out that the decision of Cheung Kong Hutchison Holdings Limited is highly controversial.
