According to reports from CCTV News, the SpaceX "Crew-10" mission, originally scheduled to launch on the evening of March 12, was canceled at the final moment due to technical issues with the Falcon 9 rocket.
The mission, a collaboration between SpaceX and NASA, was intended to send the Dragon spacecraft and four astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS).
According to NASA, the next available launch opportunity is no earlier than 7:26 p.m. EDT Thursday, March 13.
As planned, the Falcon 9 rocket was scheduled to lift off at 7:48 p.m. EDT on March 12, taking the Dragon spacecraft and its four astronauts to the ISS. The spacecraft was also expected to return to Earth a week later, bringing back two US astronauts, Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore, who have been stranded on the ISS for more than nine months.
On March 7, astronaut Suni Williams officially handed over command of the ISS to Russian cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin, signaling her readiness to return to Earth.
Williams and Wilmore initially arrived at the ISS on June 5, 2024. Their return to Earth was originally scheduled for June 14, 2024, but was repeatedly delayed due to propulsion system failures and helium leaks.
