On the afternoon of March 11, the closing meeting of the third session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, where multiple resolutions were voted on and approved.
During the session, reporters observed that each representative's desk was equipped with a palm-sized electronic voting device, featuring green, red, and yellow buttons representing "Approve," "Oppose," and "Abstain" respectively. A gentle press of the voting device takes only a second but constitutes an important step for nearly 3,000 NPC representatives in exercising the highest state power.
According to relevant laws, voting on proposals at the conference is conducted by secret ballot. It is reported that the voting system only aggregates the results of "Approve," "Oppose," "Abstain," and "Not voted," without leaving a record of the representatives' votes.
The NPC has mandated the use of anonymous voting methods and has equipped the system accordingly. This respects the will of the representatives, allowing them to press the voting device without any concerns.
