During the press conference on March 9 at the Media Center, Lei Haichao, minister and secretary of the Leading Party Members Group of the National Health Commission, announced that China's average life expectancy has reached 79 years in 2024, ranking fourth among 53 upper middle-income economies.
Lei highlighted that this figure represents an increase of 0.4 years from 2023 and an improvement of 1.7 years compared to 2019. He noted that achieving a 1.7-year increase over five years reflects significant progress and aligns with the goals set in the 14th Five-Year Plan for national economic and social development.
