
On March 8, the 13th day of the second lunar month, the residents of Ap Lei Chau celebrate the Hung Shing Festival, which has over a hundred years of history. The festival pays homage to Hung Shing, with celebrants seeking blessings from the deity for good weather and peace among the residents.
A series of events are held annually in Ap Lei Chau, organised by the Ap Lei Chau Kai Fong Tung Hing Association, including water lanterns night, the blessing of dragon boats, lion dances, a festival parade, religious opera and more.

The Hung Shing Traditional Culture Guided Tour, organized by the Chinese Temples Committee, commenced on the same day. Through a 1.5-hour guided activity, participants explored the alleys and streets of Ap Lei Chau, visiting the historic Hung Shing Temple, which has a history of over 250 years, and learning about the origins of the Hung Shing Festival and its traditional customs.
As one of the oldest typhoon shelters in Hong Kong, Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter is rich in cultural stories. Friends participating in the typhoon shelter sightseeing tour started from the cultural landmark of Ap Lei Chau, the "Hung Shing Temple," and followed the waterways to pass by various iconic sites, such as the Tai Pak Floating Restaurant and the Jumbo Seafood Restaurant. The onboard audio guide system provided in-depth introductions to the memories and sentiments associated with Aberdeen.
