The US government is reportedly considering banning the use of China's artificial intelligence (AI) model, DeepSeek, on government devices due to national security concerns, according to sources cited by Reuters.
According to The Wall Street Journal, DeepSeek stores user data on servers located in China, raising apprehensions among US officials about its data handling practices. The report also noted that US authorities are contemplating further measures, including prohibiting DeepSeek from app stores and restricting American cloud service providers from offering the AI model to clients. However, discussions on these measures remain in the early stages.
Previously, attorneys general from 21 US states had urged Congress to pass legislation banning the download and use of DeepSeek software on government devices. The White House has yet to issue a response to these calls.
